This New Year’s Eve, singer Alexa Ray Joel (daughter of Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley) took to her Facebook page to reassure her fans that she was okay after her recent attempt to overdose on homeopathic sleep aids. Joel, whom we’ve always regarded as one of the more grounded and likable children of two big celebrities (no small feat), says she’s moving on with her life and her music career. She also declared her new goal to spend 2010 trying to help young girls with a certain affliction:
…Something I feel I know a GREAT deal about: Heartbreak-Related Depression. Although it does not get much attention in our society, it is a very serious and painful condition that often gets “swept under the carpet”. I hope to bring this topic more to light… I’m even going back to school for Psychology in hopes to learn more about this and many other afflictions that many of us have had to face.
