Ninety-year-old Robert Morgenthau is not retiring after leaving the Manhattan D.A.’s office, where he worked for 35 years. Instead, he’s signed on to serve as counsel at the law firm of Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz, where he says he’ll be helping companies deal with government bureaucracy and working with immigrants. Notes the Times:
The office, though spacious, is perhaps one-third the size of the one he inhabited at One Hogan Place. There is a narrow space outside his door for his longtime personal assistant, Ida Van Lindt, but Mr. Morgenthau’s new digs, built over the weekend, are more [sic] considerably more spartan than what he was accustomed to, with white walls instead of wood paneling. Photos were yet to be hung and the shelves yet to be stocked. It smelled like a new car.
