Real answers from the CEOs who testified, certainly. Also genuine humility and shame. But there was something else that we felt was lacking. A certain je ne sais quoi that other such hearings have possessed. A sense of whimsy.
What we’re saying is, we wish someone had walked up and plopped a midget in the lap of one of the CEOs who was testifying, like a publicist for the Ringling Brothers Circus did to J.P. Morgan Jr. during the Pecora Hearings back in 1933. Could have really lightened the mood.
People just don’t do “media circuses” like they used to.
