Fabrice Tourre, the young Goldman Sachs vice-president at the center of the SEC’s investigation of the firm, is testifying on Capitol Hill shortly, and from his prepared remarks, it’s clear he’s prepared to fight the charges against himself and the Squid: “I deny — categorically — the SEC’s allegation,” he says. “And I will defend myself in court against this false claim.” He also makes a personal appeal to the committee to take it easy on him, it’s been a hard week, what with the release of all of the personal e-mails and everything.
[T]he last week has been challenging for me and my family, as I have been the target of unfounded attacks on my character and motives. I appreciate the opportunity to appear before the Subcommittee to answer these false charges. I wish to repeat – I did not mislead IKB or ACA, two of the most sophisticated institutional investors in these products anywhere in the world.
