A conservative think tank, the Heritage Foundation, has come out with its annual rankings of the countries with the greatest economic freedom, and guess what? Our government’s recession-era power grabs have pushed the United States out of the elite “free” tier and into lowly “mostly free” territory, right between Canada and Denmark. According to the report, “The U.S. government’s interventionist responses to the financial and economic crisis that began in 2008 have significantly undermined economic freedom and long-term prospects for economic growth.” Just think about how much freer we could have been had the government let the economy slip into a depression! Specifically, how much free time we all would have, because we would be unburdened by employment.
