The initial impetus for the recent investigation into Lance Armstrong’s alleged use of performance-enhancing drugs were teammate Floyd Landis’s claims in May that the seven-time Tour de France winner not only participated in doping, but also encouraged others on the U.S. Postal Service team to do so. Now, the Times reports, the investigation is broadening, and the evidence against Armstrong seems to be mounting. Prosecutors have spoken to other members of Armstrong’s cycling team who have confirmed Landis’s original account. And one rider, Tyler Hamilton, who is serving an eight-year ban for his own use of performance-enhancing drugs, has already been subpoenaed. Armstrong has said he would deny any involvement in doping “as long as I live.”
