As everyone suspected, Friday will be Rahm Emanuel’s last day as White House chief of staff. He’ll step down in a bid to run for mayor of Chicago. President Obama is scheduled to give the strong-willed operative, whom observers described as a combo of Machiavelli and Iago, a fond farewell. Spotlight-shy senior adviser Peter Rouse, who has been with Obama since he first became a senator, will be named as Emanuel’s replacement. [Caucus/NYT]
