Ingmar Guandique Found Guilty of Murdering D.C. Intern Chandra Levy

This afternoon, Ingmar Guandique was found guilty of murdering onetime D.C. Bureau of Prisons intern Chandra Levy. Guandique is an illegal immigrant from El Salvador already imprisoned for attacking two female joggers, and he is not former congressman Gary Condit, who was romantically linked to 24-year-old Levy and became the primary suspect in the case when he tried to keep their affair secret in 2001. The jury ultimately relied on the testimony of Guandique’s former cellmate, who testified that the defendant admitted killing Levy, though “prosecutors acknowledged they had little direct evidence but said Levy’s death fit a pattern of other crimes committed by Guandique in the park.” Condit testified, too, but refused to answer questions about his relationship with Levy.
