Muammar Qaddafi’s nurse, Galyna Kolotnytska, described in a WikiLeaks cable as a “voluptuous blonde,” has left Tripoli for her native Ukraine after nine years of service. The diplomatic cable, from September 2009, said Qaddafi “relies heavily” on Kolotnytska and reported claims that the two “have a romantic relationship.” Kolotnytska was one of four Ukrainian nurses in Qaddafi’s employ. Her daughter told The Wall Street Journal, “For some reason, he doesn’t trust Libyan women with this matter.” Well, sure. A 42-year rule that started with a military coup and ended with attempted genocide probably tends to cause some anxiety over the slip of a syringe in native hands. [WSJ, Telegraph UK]
