While opposition leaders met with Egypt’s new vice-president Omar Suleiman to discuss a possible transition of power, key members of Egypt’s embattled ruling party, including President Hosni Mubarak’s once heir-apparent son Gamal, resigned from their posts today, further isolating Mubarak. The ruling party leaders who resigned included the secretary general and other powerful political figures — a big victory for protesters. An interim committee was named, headed by Hossam Badrawy, consisting largely of young people. Meanwhile, Mubarak remains president of the ruling party, and protesters have refused to end their rallies until he resigns. [NYP, CNN, Lede/NYT]
