While opposition leaders met with Egypt’s new vice-president Omar Suleiman to discuss a possible transition of power, key members of Egypt’s embattled ruling party, including President Hosni Mubarak’s once heir-apparent son Gamal, resigned from their posts today, further isolating Mubarak. The ruling party leaders who resigned included the secretary general and other powerful political figures — a big victory for protesters. An interim committee was named, headed by Hossam Badrawy, consisting largely of young people.
