Speaking on the privately owned ONTV Egyptian television channel, reform leader Mohamed ElBaradei announced that he would run for president of Egyptian. “When the door of presidential nominations opens, I intend to nominate myself,” Mr ElBaradei said on a live talk show. He also declared that he had no intention of supporting proposed constitutional amendments, and instead called for the creation of an entirely new constitution. “The current constitution fell. It would be an insult to the revolution if we decided to retrieve this constitution,” he said. Instead, he called for “a new constitution, a presidential vote and then parliamentary vote.” [ABC]
