A married Jewish couple and three of their children were stabbed to death at a West Bank settlement Friday night, in what Israeli officials said was an attack by a Palestinian who broke into the family’s home. The Israeli military is searching the surrounding area for the assailant. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu demanded the Palestinian Authority assist in finding the murderers and “halt the incitement in the mosques and via the Palestinian Authority-controlled media.” He added, “We all know, as do those who want to strike at us will know, that the future of the settlements will not be decided upon by terror.” Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Salam Fayyad denounced the killings. “We refuse and condemn violence, whatever the reasons are or the perpetrators or targets or victims,” he said. The U.S. spoke out against the murders, too, calling it a terrorist attack. “We offer our condolences to their loved ones and to the Israeli people,” the White House said in a statement.
