Appearing on Thursday night’s Piers Morgan Tonight, Matt Damon expressed disappointment with President Obama’s performance. When asked if he was happy with Obama, the actor responded, “No. I really think he misinterpreted his mandate. A friend of mine said it the other day and I thought it was a great line: ‘I no longer hope for audacity.’”
Damon had been one of Obama’s biggest Hollywood supporters, but expressed disappointment with the president’s actions in Afghanistan. “I don’t think the mission there has been very well articulated,” Damon said. “And I think it would help to kind of reframe the way we’re thinking about being there, and why we’re there.” Damon, who narrated the Oscar-winning documentary on corporate greed, The Inside Job, said he was unhappy with Obama’s assessment of the country. “He’s doubled down on a lot of things … In his State of the Union [address] he didn’t even say the word ‘poverty.’ You’ve got millions of people languishing in it.”
