John Heilemann on Andrea Mitchell: The Not-Gonna-Happen Candidates

New York columnist John Heilemann stopped by Andrea Mitchell Reports today to debate why Rudy Giuliani and New Jersey governor Chris Christie are looking like no-way, no-how candidates for 2012. In Giuliani’s case, nobody’s really asking about when he’ll announce except for reporters. “There never has been a lot of grassroots enthusiasm around Rudy Giuliani,” says Heilemann. Aww. As for Christie, he’ll have a lot of explaining to do if he decides to make himself a candidate: “He has said repeatedly that he’s not qualified to be president,” Heilemann says. “That is the kind of thing that if you say it, [it] comes back to haunt you if you change your mind.”
