Congress has been getting mighty testy lately about the ongoing war/conflict/endless static stalemate in Libya. A bi-partisan group of ten congressmen is suing President Obama in court in an attempt to force him to end America’s involvement in Libya, and Speaker of the House John Boehner recently sent Obama a letter demanding to know why he was allegedly violating the War Powers Resolution by not seeking authorization from Congress:
“Given the mission you have ordered to the U.S. Armed Forces with respect to Libya and the text of the War Powers Resolution, the House is left to conclude that you have made one of two determinations: either you have concluded the War Powers Resolution does not apply to the mission in Libya, or you have determined the War Powers Resolution is contrary to the Constitution,” Mr. Boehner wrote. “The House, and the American people whom we represent, deserve to know the determination you have made.”
Obama’s response, which was delivered to Congress today, is, in essence, that the intervention in Libya isn’t a war war.
There’s your answer, Boehner. Now if you’ll excuse Obama, he has to go bomb Yemen.
