According to the New York Times, one of the “most emotional apologies” that Anthony Weiner delivered in his apology tour of politicians and supporters was to … Bill Clinton. Yes, the man who practically shut down America with revelations of a tawdry, in-person affair with a White House intern is the one who made the cocky congressman feel the worst about his flirtations over the Internet. Clinton, of course, played a key role in Weiner’s marriage. The Times reminds us why:
One of Mr. Weiner’s most emotional apologies was delivered to former President Bill Clinton, who officiated at his wedding in July and is extremely close with the congressman’s wife, Huma Abedin, an aide to Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.
(Exactly what does “extremely close” mean in this situation?)
The Clintons are probably extra-special angry because a week ago, while lying to defend himself, Weiner blamed his travails on a “vast right-wing conspiracy.” Hurting their friends and stealing their lines? That’s just too far, Weiner. Too far.
