Despite the pleas of one of his victims, 41-year-old Texas inmate Mark Anthony Stroman was executed Wednesday night for killing two men during a series of shootings he said were spurred by the September 11 attacks. An admitted white supremacist at the time, Stroman targeted people he believed were Middle Eastern. The U.S. Supreme Court denied a stay of execution for Stroman last month that his supporters, including Rais Bhuiyan, a man who survived the shootings, were lobbying for. “I cannot tell you that I am an innocent man,” Stroman told CNN in a recent interview. “I am not asking you to feel sorry for me, and I won’t hide the truth. I am a human being and made a terrible mistake out of love, grief and anger, and believe me, I am paying for it every single minute of the day.” [NYT, CNN]
