The man who allegedly shot and killed NYPD officer Peter Figoski during a home invasion on Monday was arrested just a month ago in New York City and charged with crack-cocaine possession and child endangerment, but was released without bail. The suspect, Lamont Pride, was also wanted in North Carolina in connection with a shooting. Mayor Bloomberg said today that the local judge “could have picked up the phone” and called North Carolina to ask about the outstanding warrant. “If you’re talking about somebody who the rap sheet in front of you shows is potentially a dangerous person, has a gun, has a criminal history, common sense says don’t let him out until you make one phone call,” Bloomberg said. “It’s not a lot of work to do to protect the public. It was not done, plain and simple.”
