Roughly two hours after 76 Vassar College early admission applicants learned through a special website that they had been accepted to the prestigious liberal arts school in Poughkeepsie, New York, they received an e-mail advising them that they were actually rejected. It was a mistake. Those applicants weren’t even deferred. Maybe this is Vassar’s free freshman seminar, Real Life 101, where the world defies your expectations and callously beats you down.
