In response to a report this morning that said New York City might work to reduce the number of places to drink, along with ads for liquor, Mayor Bloomberg has reestablished his commitment to the alcohol that keeps this city running. Asked whether Bloomberg supported the Health Department proposals, a spokesman said simply, “No.” He added, “One reason the mayor has been successful in office is because we think there are no bad ideas in brainstorming, and then we weigh them against other concerns. We’re deeply committed to encouraging entrepreneurs to start and expand small businesses in the city.” So local smokers and junk-food fans can just hit the bottle extra-hard.
