Anti-gay marriage, pro-Mitt Romney New Jersey governor Chris Christie nominated two people to the state Supreme Court today, including Bruce Harris, an openly gay black Republican mayor, and Phil Kwon, a Korean-American assistant attorney general, who would be the court’s first Asian-American and first immigrant. Harris was just elected mayor of Chatham Borough in November, but if confirmed, would become the first LGBT person to serve as a New Jersey Supreme Court judge, and only the third African-American. Garden State Equality executive director Steven Goldstein was informed of the news personally by Christie and said, “As I told the Governor right then and there, you could have picked me up off the floor.”
