What’s Hiding Above Your Bodega?

Contemporary New York City doesn’t produce much ruin porn — though earlier eras in the city’s life sure have. Perhaps that’s why photographer Kevin Shea Adams’s discovery of a beautiful and decaying theater was so striking. The theater sits above a bodega on Avenue A, which was using the space as an ad hoc storage unit.

Gothamist has more photos of the theater, which was shut down in 1959. The building is soon to be demolished in favor of an as-yet-indeterminate new structure.
