The suspect is a 14-year-old girl. She reportedly attacked a 15-year-old female student with a hammer Monday morning in a hallway near the school’s bathrooms, hitting her in the hand. A 16-year-old male student was hit in the hand and ribs while trying to pull the weapon away from the attacker; the male student said the attacker and the other victim “had had problems before.” Police said that both victims are expected to recover. Unfortunately, Columbine, Colorado, about a dozen miles southwest of Denver, is probably best known for the horrific school shooting in 1999 that set off a string of copycats across the country in the ensuing decade.
