Nathan Kleinman, a protester from Occupy Philadelphia, planned on a race against the incumbent Democrat Allyson Schwartz for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, but that dream is basically dead. Schwartz challenged the signatures Kleinman collected to make the ballot — he needed 1,000 — on a few technicalities, leading Kleinman to claim that she “doesn’t think that she can beat me on the issues, so she’s trying to beat me with a frivolous challenge in court.” But now he’s giving up the legal battle. “I made the determination that I didn’t have the time to spend the next few weeks fighting this in court,” Kleinman told Dylan Byers of Politico today. He will now run as a write-in candidate instead; the system’s road blocks are real.
