Yesterday afternoon around 1:15 p.m., a fire broke out in a three-story, brick-facaded but wood-frame house in the Bronx, and quickly spread to three nearby buildings. The Times reports nine firefighters in all were injured (the Daily News says twenty) — two after falling through a collapsing floor — and that the black smoke coming off the fire was so thick that, “Neighbors who had come out to watch had to cover their faces with clothing or their hands as they held up cellphones to take pictures and record videos.”
