Perhaps sensing that his chances of becoming the Republican presidential nominee are slim, Newt Gingrich said he would throw his support behind Mitt Romney if he claimed the necessary delegates, reports the New York Post. “We are absolutely committed to defeating Barack Obama,” Gingrich told Fox News Sunday. “I will work as hard for [Romney] as I would for myself.” Gingrich and Romney have of course spent much of the campaign trail viciously sniping at one another. But everything’s cool between the two now, reports Politico, as the two candidates have finally found some common ground aside from their mutual hatred for one another and President Obama: being grandfathers. In the same interview, Gingrich said, “We’re both grandparents. We really see this as the fight for the future of our grandchildren’s country.”
