Charles Manson, Ozzie Guillen, Hilary Rosen Just Some of the Surprise Names on Mitt Romney’s V.P. List

Republican presidential candidate and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney speaks to supporters on April 11, 2012 in Hartford, Connecticut. Romney spoke at Alpha Graphics in Hartford and will later attend a small business town hall meeting in Warwick, Rhode Island. With Rick Santorum, Romney's chief rival for the Republican nomination, out of the race, the former Massachusetts governor is now the presumptive Republican nominee.

A handful of elected GOP officials have dominated the veepstakes discussion so far — people like Rob Portman, Chris Christie, and Marco Rubio — but it turns out that Mitt Romney is considering a much wider swath of potential running mates. Much wider. Asked at a town hall last night whether he could choose Rick Santorum, Romney revealed that yes, Santorum is a possibility, along with … everybody:

Everybody is on my list,” said Romney in answer to a voter who asked whether he would consider former presidential candidate Rick Santorum as his running mate. “Everybody is on my list. I’m not taking anybody off the list, alright?”

Why Romney would ever contemplate Hilary Rosen — the Democratic strategist who belittled his wife last night — as a potential running mate is a mystery. That he might place psycho-killer Charles Manson or professed Castro-admirer Ozzie Guillen one heartbeat away from the presidency is also baffling. Not to mention, it seems odd to even flirt with the idea of giving Mirlande Wilson, the Maryland woman who pretended to win Mega Millions, the power of the tie-breaking vote in the Senate.
