Think you really want an iPad or iPhone? Well, a Chinese teenager probably wanted one way more than you do, as he sold a kidney for the two devices. The transaction has led to the indictment of five people on charges of illegal organ trading in the city of Chenzhou. Black market organ trading has become an increasingly serious problem in China, a country where nearly 1.5 million people are in need of organ transplants, but only 10,000 procedures are conducted yearly. Apparently, the 17-year-old’s mother found out about the deal after she asked him how he could afford an iPad and iPhone and he told her what he had done. Worldwide, parents are used to hearing their teenagers say some of the weirdest and stupidest things imaginable, but we’re willing to bet she didn’t see this one coming.
