Pro-Western Candidate Leading in Libyan Election

Mahmoud Jibril, a former University of Pittsburgh political science professor at the interim prime minister installed after the fall Muammar Qaddafi’s regime, is reportedly leading preliminary vote counts from Libya’s first free election in decades. Though his coalition has pledged to borrow from Islamic law in crafting legislation, it remains decidedly more anti-Islamist than the new governments in nearby Egypt and Tunisia.
