Ann Romney: Mitt’s Integrity Is ‘Just Golden,’ So Don’t Worry About Those Tax Returns

When Ann Romney agreed to sit down with Rock Center shortly after the Olympics, she was probably hoping that the most awkward portion of the interview would be about the increasingly apparent animosity between Mitt and Rafalca. However, calls for Romney’s tax returns are so persistent that Natalie Morales felt compelled to raise the issue even in an otherwise fluffy interview about Romney being a sixties “rebel in reverse,” which entailed marrying Mitt at 19, converting to Mormonism, and becoming a stay-at-home mother.

Romney got emotional when recalling how she learned that she had MS, and revealed that she had a small flare-up during the spring that gave her a “real scare.” “It was just a reminder that I can’t keep up the pace,” she said.

Yet, Romney was perfectly in sync with her husband on the issue of releasing more tax returns. “We have been transparent to what’s legally required of us,” she said. “But the more we release, the more we get attacked, the more we get questions, the more we get pushed. We have done what’s legally required, and there’s going to be no more tax releases given. And there’s a reason for that. And that’s because of … what happens as soon as we release anything.” Besides, the American people should just trust Mitt when he says there’s nothing alarming in the unreleased tax returns. “You have to understand is that Mitt is honest, his integrity is, is just golden,” said Romney.
