On Monday, Judge William Sylvester denied a request by 21 media organizations to lift the gag order that prevents attorneys, law enforcement, and University of Colorado employees from revealing information about the case. However, Sylvester did allow a handful of documents to be made public. For the most part, the papers were routine, but one document revealed that Holmes’s lawyers requested that he be allowed to sit with them in court. Holmes had been placed in the jury box during hearings owing to concern over his safety, but the judge ruled in favor of the defense, which argued that the move made it seem that he was too dangerous to sit with his own attorneys.
