For a country that has become complacent over the years to the threat of bird terror, an incident last night outside of Denver should serve as a reminder that our war with goose fundamentalism is far from over. A United Airlines 737 flying from Dallas to Denver was struck in the nose by a single bird about 25 miles prior to landing, and yet this single bird managed to open up a gaping hole in the plane’s exterior and damage the plane’s horizontal stabilizer and air speed indicator. The pilots were able to land safely, but it’s clear that, far from fading away, the birds of terror are becoming ever more emboldened. But they have now awakened a sleeping giant, or a sleeping whatever creature is best at killing birds.
