At a Sunday press conference Chuck Schumer urged the Consumer Product Safety Commission to add more protections to the packaging for laundry detergent pods. Hundreds of children nationwide have become ill after mistaking the pods for candy. “These pods were supposed to make household chores easier, not tempt our children to swallow harmful chemicals. I saw one on my staffer’s desk and I wanted to eat it,” said Schumer, according to the Daily News. The senator said he doesn’t want to see the products banned, but mused, “I don’t know why they make them look so delicious.”
