Silvio Berlusconi Sentenced to Four Years in Prison, Will Probably Never Serve Time

After evading conviction in a seemingly innumerable number of other criminal cases, former Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi was finally found guilty today of tax-fraud charges related to his Mediaset television company. Whether he ever serves those years remains to be seen. As the AP reports, “In Italy, cases must pass two levels of appeal before the verdicts are final.” Also, according to CNN, “under Italian law, judges can suspend sentences for convicts over 70,” and Berlusconi is 76. Plus, come on, it’s Italy.
