Governor Chris Christie tried to be a bit coy during his keynote address at the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce dinner on Thursday night, saying the topic of discussion during his meeting at the White House is “between me and the president.” However, he couldn’t stop himself from gushing that it was “a lot of fun.” Haggling over a “specific number” for the Sandy aid package doesn’t sound all that amusing, but Christie said he lightened the mood with a jab at Governor Cuomo.
Finally, he was walking me to the door of the Oval Office, and I grabbed his arm…I said, ‘Mr. President, you give me this number today, you got a deal.’ He said to me, ‘That’s a lot of money, governor.’ And I said, ‘Yeah, but we’d have a deal! And if you do it with me today, I got Cuomo’s proxy, and you don’t have to deal with him again … That may have made it more tempting.
Hopefully Christie didn’t follow it up by trying to show the president his burn book.
