Last night Newt Gingrich made a cameo on Parks and Recreation, a show that is this season’s hands-down winner for most cameos by politicians in a sitcom. Previous appearances included Senators Barbara Boxer, Olympia Snowe, and John McCain, as well as Vice-President Joe Biden, megacrush of lead character Leslie Knope. But many a politician has played a version of him or herself onscreen: Rudy Giuliani got caught up in the fat-free fro-yo scam on Seinfeld, Ed Koch walked a runway in Sex and the City, Tip O’Neill shared a drink with Norm on Cheers, and Patrick Leahy has credits in three Batman films.
