Former Fox News host Glenn Beck and the institution of professional wrestling, once pillars of America, have about the same amount of relevance to our lives now, which is to say not much. But combine the two and we’re cooking. Beck has apparently been using his existing platform the Blaze TV to rail on new WWE villain Zeb Colter (really!), a Vietnam vet tea partier who hates immigrants. “So may I ask: Did George Soros buy the WWE? Is this a Cass Sunstein presentation?” Beck wondered. So WWE did the natural thing and invited him on.
An announcement today from the worldwide leader in sweaty men playing pretend offered Beck a slot on Monday’s episode of Raw and reminded him, “Similar to other television shows and feature films, WWE is in the entertainment business, creating fictional characters that serve as protagonists or antagonists.”
He does seem to have lost a sense of perspective: “You’re making a villain out of what? Probably 80 percent of your audience who’s tired as it is of being miscast? They’re tired of this,” Beck went on in his rant. “I’m sick and tired of being miscast. I am sick and tired of it … You’re mocking me for standing up for the Constitution of the United States of America? You’re mocking me for standing up for law and order? Equal justice under the law? … You’re mocking me for standing up for the same principles and values that Martin Luther King stood up for? I don’t think so. In my own camp? No, I don’t think so. Get the hell out.”
It sounds like he already has his middle-of-the-ring monologue ready. And imagine the spandex:
