Celeste Greig is not an elected official, but she is in charge of the California Republican Assembly, a large and influential volunteer organization that Ronald Reagan once called “the conscience” of the GOP. So, you’d think that she’d join the rest of her party in refraining from making controversial statements about rape in the wake of the 2012 election. However, when asked about Todd Akin’s infamous “legitimate rape” comment during a Friday interview, Greig could not help herself from echoing his claims by saying that “the percentage of pregnancies due to rape is small because it’s an act of violence, because the body is traumatized.” To be fair, she also called Akin’s remarks “insensitive” and said that he “should have come back and apologized.” We wonder if she’ll take her own advice.
