It Will Now Cost $17,000 to Fly Privately to Guantánamo

Now that the Navy has decided to prohibit commercial air service to the base in Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, the only way for lawyers and journalists to get there is to have the Navy fly them on a weekly shuttle, or to book a charter, the Miami Herald’s Carol Rosenberg reports. IBC Travel, which had been flying the route, “will also offer $17,000 one-day charters between South Florida and Guantánamo on a case-by-case basis, by agreement with the base commander.” Good luck getting an editor to sign off on that.
