Mourning is in order at the Bronx Zoo, where the 40-year-old gorilla, Pattycake, died Sunday after treatment for “chronic cardiac issues.” She was the first gorilla born in New York, and she gave birth to ten offspring who now live at different zoos around the country. Gorillas have an average lifespan of 37 years, the Daily News reports, but Pattycake’s mother Lulu died at the age of 46 in 2011, so apparently longevity runs in their family. She will be missed.
