We learned on Monday that past scandals hadn’t hurt poll numbers for Anthony Weiner and Eliot Spitzer, but the fund-raising numbers out Monday night don’t track quite as easily. While Weiner has raised a hefty $828,886 since he entered the race seven weeks ago, Spitzer, who just joined the comptroller’s race last week and is paying for his own campaign, has no data logged with the city’s Campaign Finance Board. However, Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer has raised $110,000 since Spitzer announced. That’s the lion’s share of the $151,000 he’s raised in the last two months, the Daily News reports: “Stringer had 330 donors give to his campaign between mid-May and Thursday — 241 of them in the last four days of the two-month stretch, a spokeswoman said.” So apparently scandal pays, but not necessarily to those who incur it.
