Here’s one way Eliot Spitzer can distinguish himself from Anthony Weiner in the minds of voters: While Carlos Danger had his beleaguered wife speak on his behalf as he casually admitted to another round of extramarital sexting, Spitzer confirmed on Thursday night that his wife Silda won’t be joining him on the campaign trail. “I think it’s fair to say I’m running for office. No other member of my family is running for office. And I think the public is going to judge me, not who else is with me or not with me,” Spitzer told the Post. He noted, “She’s got a career,” but the paper claims it isn’t Silda’s job that’s keeping her from shaking a few voters’ hands, but the fact that she’s on the verge of divorcing the former governor and prostitute enthusiast.
The Post kick-started the latest rumors about the Spitzers’ marital troubles with a report that they were living in separate apartments, which was later backed up by the New York Times. Now Page Six says Silda “had had enough” and is planning to file for divorce after the election. “Silda is telling her female friends that she is done with him,” says one source. “Silda is saying she is going to wait until this is all over,” adds another tipster. “She has been telling friends, ‘This is too hard. This is too rough.’”
Compared to what we’ve seen this week, the news that a candidate for city comptroller might be getting a divorce seems kind of quaint — assuming that Silda’s divorce filing doesn’t reveal that Spitzer has been soliciting prostitutes again and demanding to be called “Mario Smash.”
