In a tangible scaling back of the scope of its stop-and-frisk program, the NYPD has agreed, as part of a lawsuit settlement with the NYCLU, to expunge the names of people it had stopped, even if the stop led to a citation. Data from stops that don’t lead to an arrest is already supposed to be discarded. It has 90 days to delete “any remaining information that establishes the personal identity of an individual who has been stopped, questioned and/or frisked, including the name and address.”
