As we approach a mayoral election that may very well determine whether or not New York turns into a postindustrial wasteland, WNYC brings us this interactive map detailing the voting rate of each census tract in the city based on 2009’s mayoral election. It’s, uh, pretty depressing. Even in the very best areas — not surprisingly, these appear to correlate pretty closely with the wealthiest areas — the voting rate is somewhere in the mid-40s. Some of the worst areas are closer to 0 percent.
