The vast majority of the 3,000 victims of Hurricane Sandy the city evacuated to hotels left months ago, but 350 or so still rely on city funds to keep a roof over their heads. Now the city wants them out by Oct. 1. The city says it’s paying $16,300 a month each to house 165 households in hotels, and it wants those still reaping funds to move to homeless shelters. The people still displaced by the storm say housing remains scarce and expensive, and there aren’t even rooms guaranteed in the shelters. Hurricane Sandy is still the worst.
