Salvagers are using a process called parbuckling to raise the Costa Concordia, the cruise ship that capsized last year, from its bed on a rock shelf off the coast of Giglio, Italy. The procedure, which involves “a series of huge jacks and cables,” according to Reuters, is going to take them about twenty hours if everything goes smoothly, ending at about 4 a.m. GMT on Tuesday. The plan is to get the ship upright and floating again, then tow it away and scrap it. It’s an arduous job all around, taking too long to even watch in real time.
