government shutdown

Republican Congressman Using Time Off to Creepily Hit on CNN Reporter

Indiana representative Todd Rokita’s spewing of GOP talking points went slightly off script on CNN last night when he realized he was speaking to a woman. “What we’re fighting for at the end of the day, Carol — I don’t know if you have children yet, or I’m sure you don’t have grandchildren yet, you look much too young — but we’re fighting for them,” he tells Carol Costello in an attempt to explain away the shutdown. The condescension increases every time he says her name. He says it a lot.

Carol, do you have any idea how much this law is going to cost? It’s an insidious law because it’s a lie,” Rokita continues, on the subject of Obamacare. “Do you know how much it costs every day the government is partially shut down?” she shoots back. “You’re costing taxpayers millions and millions of dollars! Seriously?”

Seriously, Carol,” he responds, confusing debating with flirting. “Seriously, Carol. Seriously, Carol. Serious. Seriously, Carol,” he repeats. “Oh, come on, Carol.” Carol!

Carol, you’re beautiful, but you have to be honest as well.” This is what we’re working with.
