Four unlucky people, including the oil-truck driver, were doused with very dangerous heating fluid called “number 6” on Seventh Avenue and 36th Street this morning when 50 gallons spilled from a pump (and dripped down into the subway). One man had time to tell the local news that he and his wife “both got oil in our eyes” before getting decontaminated. Number 6, CBS reports, “is described as one of the dirtiest and most toxic forms of heating fuel,” and should be phased out by 2015, so this shouldn’t happen too many more times.
