Rand Paul’s presidential campaign’s favorite tactic against Chris Christie seems to be calling Christie fat while maintaining plausible deniability that he is calling him fat. This summer, Paul called Christie “the king of bacon” because of pork barrel spending, somehow. Yesterday, he proposed that Christie meet him at an Iowa state fair and have a fried Twinkie.
Obviously, a skinny politician can be photographed eating a fried Twinkie as an act of culinary faux-populism, whereas a fat politician risks utter ridicule for doing that. Very shrewd! Also very Mean Girls.
