SantaCon Is the Worst, NYPD Agrees

SantaCon is one of those sloppy New York City traditions, like the Halloween parade or St. Patrick’s Day, in which the sole purpose is to consume as much alcohol as humanly possible before puking in the street. It must be stopped. (Let’s cancel the No-Pants Subway Ride and Pillow-Fight Day while we’re at it. Flash-mob-style fun is impossibly overrated.)

The NYPD is on the right side of history, as of this year, having sent a letter to bar owners in Hell’s Kitchen and midtown asking them not to participate in the farce:

Having thousands of intoxicated partygoers roam the streets urinating, littering, vomiting and vandalizing will not be tolerated in our neighborhood,” wrote Lt. John Cocchi of the Midtown North Precinct.

“The negative impact that this event will bring to your community will far outweigh the short term benefit to your establishment.”

Grown men in costumes get the respect they deserve.
